What is a EAN Barcode? And how does it work?
EAN bar codes originate with the only legal source called Gs1. Gs1 is the new name for EAN International and the UCC (Uniform Code Council). EAN bar codes appear as lines (bars) of varying widths representing the series of numbers commonly shown below the bars. Barcode scanners, as you will know them from your favorite retailers, read the bars and convert them back to the 13-digit EAN number that they represent. This number is then looked up within the retailer's inventory system to find the corresponding product name and price that you provided them with when you signed your agreement for them to carry your product .
In short, the EAN bar code is a 13-digit unique code for your product represented by scannable bars. The 13-digit bar code number consists of a number system character, a manufacturer's number, a product number and a check digit. The first six to nine digits of a EAN bar code are referred to as the manufacturing number that always remains contant on all of a company's products. The manufacturing number is followed by a product number that is unique to each product. The last digit in the EAN bar code is known as the check digit.
